Miley Cyrus’ recent MTV Unplugged special was a thing of head-scratching greatness, as she stripped away the high gloss of songs like “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball” and transformed her slick pop smashes into odd, rootsy alt-country ditties. It’s a funny choice, given Cyrus’ well-documented affinity for cannabis culture — but her raspy, tangy vocals and energetic showmanship serve as very good reasons to overlook the mixed messages.
