If you are looking for real-world experience, internships are everywhere. Vault.com, a New York City career-information company that has been conducting internship surveys since 1995, estimates that 86% of college seniors complete at least one internship by graduation, and 69% complete two or more. Here are a few examples of college and university programs:
In the past two years, Agnes Scott College has given 41 students an opportunity to intern for women entrepreneurs in the Atlanta area. Funded by the Kauffman Foundation, the internship pays students, who also earn four academic credits for a minimum of 150 hours' work.
Oberlin College is one of 25 colleges that form the Liberal Arts Career Network. Students can go to a site called Intern Center, where they can view 25,000 internships from all over the world in such areas as accounting, public relations, film and international business.
Boston University has internship arrangements with companies in eight countries for students in eight majors, ranging from film to politics. Students go to Beijing, Dublin, London, Madrid, Moscow, Paris, Sydney or Washington to work for such organizations as Marriott Hotels, Amnesty International and MTV.
