Age: 14; Home: Sierra Leone

Mariama was raped at age 11.
She was reunited with family in April.

Some rebels took me and carried me from my house. My mother and father were there. The rebels had guns. They said because I'm beautiful and a girl. They took six of my half sisters also. I heard them yelling.

I shouted. I was afraid. I started bleeding. My belly was hurting. It was one after the other. There were three of them. I can't remember how long it went on. I was dragged outside by the rebels and told to go away. They said go home, but I could not walk by then. I saw a gentleman in the streets who knew me. He took me on his back to my house. My mother and father took me to the doctor.

A week later my big brother was killed. Rumors started flying that the rebels were cutting [off] hands. We started running to the national stadium. I began to be afraid. I didn't see my mother. I started thinking the rebels would catch me again. Since I couldn't find my parents, I started crying. I heard boats were going to Guinea. I took a pam-pam [a boat that can hold 150 to 200 people]. The trip took two days. I didn't eat. I didn't drink. I didn't sleep. When the boat landed, I had nobody.
