ROSA PARKS (1913- )
Civil rights activist Rosa Parks is most famous for refusing to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Alabama bus — a defiant gesture that sparked the city's famous 1956 bus boycott. Parks was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 1999.
