W.E.B. DUBOIS (1868-1963)
The only black founder of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, DuBois worked as an author and teacher. He received the World Peace Council Prize in 1952, and in 1961 DuBois became a member of the Communist Party and immigrated to Ghana, where he was director of the Encyclopedia Africana.
