He studied at the University of Virginia, and the International Center of Photography.

His work has appeared in The New York Times, Life, The New York Times Magazine, The Sunday London Times and Geo to name a few.

Lambertson is a contract photographer for TIME Magazine.

He has received four Picture of The Year Awards and the World Press Award.

He has exhibited at Perpignan and has work traveling in The Smithsonian exhibition of the Black History of Photography.

He received the George Sorros Media Fellowship for an project on Juvenile Violence in America.

He is currently a faculty member at the International Center of Photography where he teaches documentary photojournalism.
