Cholesterol Check

Made by ChemTrak Inc. of Sunnyvale, California, and expected to sell for $10 to $15, the simple-to-use kit gives a reading within 15 minutes that is as accurate as those made by doctors and laboratories.

Federal health officials hope that the kit will push more people into doing something about high cholesterol, a risk factor in heart disease. A report in the Journal of the American Medical Association indicates that more than two- thirds of Americans with high cholesterol are not receiving treatment.
