Author, The South Beach Diet Dr. Arthur Agatston is the author of The South Beach Diet, the bestselling diet book providing the public with information about the connection between a good diet, safe weight loss and disease prevention. After graduating N.Y.U. School of Medicine and completing his fellowship at N.Y.U., Dr. Agatston took a position at Mt. Sinai Medical Center and became the director of non- invasive cardiology. As director, he pursued his clinical practice and research in the field of non-invasive cardiac diagnostics. Dr. Agatston and colleague Warren Janowitz, M.D., a radiologist, did early work on quantifying calcium in the coronary arteries as a measure of arteriosclerosis. Following the publication of reviewed articles on their findings, the "Agatston Score" was born. Dr. Agatston has authored more than 100 scientific publications, as well as reviewed for major medical and cardiology journals. He is an expert consultant for the clinical trials committee of the National Institutes of Health, an associate professor of medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine and co-director of the annual "Symposium on Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease."
