Inside Ralph Lauren's Garage
When Ralph Lauren was 22 and selling neckties in New York, he would make the rounds in a white Morgan convertible with red leather seats. It was the first car he ever bought, and it turned out to be the first of many. From March 6 to July 3, 16 of Lauren's vintage automobiles will be on view at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. "Speed, Style and Beauty: Cars from the Ralph Lauren Collection" includes such treasures as a 1929 Blower Bentley (James Bond's first set of wheels), a 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder (the model James Dean died in) and a 1962 Ferrari GTO, above. The Morgan won't be on view. Lauren gave it up when he and his wife bought their first apartment and couldn't afford a garage. Luckily, that's not a problem anymore.
