Paco Rabanne's Makeover
Paco Rabanne made his name in the 1960s with minidresses created out of plastic disks and chain-link metal. But don't expect to see synthetics trotting down the runway when Patrick Robinson, the house's new creative director, unveils his first collection, in March. "I'm not going through the archive," says Robinson, 38, a former Perry Ellis designer. "Paco Rabanne hasn't been relevant because it's been trying to rehash the '60s." Instead, Robinson plans to incorporate luxurious materials like fur and sparkling stones into the line. "The metal atelier is at Swarovski right now looking at different crystals, thinking of new ways to use colored stones as detail," says Robinson. "I believe the house needs to become more of a luxury brand."
