Sunset in Miami
Tastemakers who usually head to South Beach when in Miami are discovering the allure of the less flashy Sunset Harbor neighborhood. Tomas Maier staked out the territory with the opening of his first store, above, in November. In a district still known for its old warehouses, Maier's outlet is a haven of chic. "It is a little bit off track compared with the other shopping areas, but Miami was missing this type of neighborhood," says Maier. In addition to his own collection, the space houses a gallery and a selection of items ranging from Lanvin fashions to books handpicked by Maier.

Not far from Tomas Maier is the newest addition to André Balazs' hip Standard hotel chain. Applying the Standard concept of affordable sophistication to its Miami location, the newest outpost is a waterfront spa hotel featuring a menu by famed Le Bernardin chef Eric Ripert. Clearly, Sunset has arrived.
