Fall 2005 Style & Design
Maybe Los Angeles never deserved its reputation as a style vacuum. After all, some of America's biggest contributions to the fashion lexicon come from California: vintage dyed denim, T shirts, sneakers. The whole notion of red-carpet dressing was invented by Hollywood insiders like Edith Head and then adapted by designers like Norman Norell and James Galanos. Consequently, American designers like Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and even Tom Ford have consistently looked west for inspiration.

"My belief is that something always happens in L.A., and it starts in the summer, and a year later it is a huge trend nationwide," says Green. So what's next? "Ed Hardy T shirts," reports Green. "They're a little bit rock 'n' roll and a little bit girly." Which is to say, totally L.A.
