"This Is My Now"

Ah, just give her the record deal now. I don't mean it as an insult to Jordin that she's far, far better suited to sing this god-awful anthem. As Kelly Clarkson showed us, American Idol-dom — and pop singing generally — is the art of spinning goop into gossamer. Jordin doesn't just hit all the power notes in this song; unlike Blake, she makes you feel the meaning of the song. (Granted, that meaning — I Have Just Won a Giant Contest, and Thank You America for Making My Dream Come True — is exactly the same as every other American Idol winner's first single, but whaddya gonna do?) Sealing the deal, she ends the performance with apparently genuine tears. She might as well be crying million-dollar bills.
