"Stormy Weather"

Best vocal of the night. LaKisha leaves a smoking hole where this song used to be, a powerful performance that makes me think that maybe she might be the frontrunner in this Idol after all. Yes, maybe she has only one mode, full-on diva, but she's like a restaurant that serves a great steak—why do you want to change up the menu? And unlike even some of the stronger performers like Melinda, she sings like there's actual lived experience behind her vocal. In his pretaped mentoring, Bennett advises her to leave off a tag she added at the end ("Ain't no sunshine when he's gone!"). LaKisha disregards him, because LaKisha knows how to sing like LaKisha and does not give a crap what anyone else thinks. And for this, I love her.
