How Armies of Peace Are Deployed
Forget white doves and olive branches: keeping the peace is all about manpower. The U.N.'s 15 active peacekeeping missions now utilize just over 100,000 troops—a 15% increase since last year, with Pakistan contributing more peacekeepers (10,619) than any other nation. A total of 853 U.N. troops have been killed in the past decade.
