Motherhood is a tough job, especially if you live in a developing nation. A new report issued by Save the Children looks at childhood mortality and ranks the best and worst countries for mothers, using metrics such as educational standards and rates of maternal death during childbirth. Nine of the 10 worst countries are in Africa; eight of the 10 best are in Europe. The U.S. tied with Hungary for 26th this year. See the map above for a global view of childhood mortality data from 1990 to 2005.
