Forest Whitaker, Best Actor Grade: B
Why, oh why, do the slam-dunk favorites always have to feign they're in shock? "Just a second, just a second," said a breathless Whitaker, trying to calm himself down before reading his prepared remarks. Still, it was one of the more lyrical and heartfelt moments of the evening: a tribute to his childhood in East Texas and South Central LA; to the people of Uganda, "who helped this film have its spirit"; and to God, "who has given me this moment, in this lifetime, that I will hopefully carry to the end of my lifetime, and into the next lifetime."
