Bewitched
by Ella Fitzgerald

Here's how the Ohio Express described being in love: "Yummy yummy yummy I got love in my tummy/ And I feel like lovin' you." Now here's how Rodgers and Hart handled it: "I'm wild again, beguiled again/ A simpering, whimpering child again/ Bewitched, bothered and bewildered, am I." Okay, so I stacked the deck a little, but a mere 67 years after its Broadway debut, Bewitched remains the smartest and tartest love song ever written. And as wittily seductive as the lyrics are, Ella Fitzgerald's flirty vocal — she sings like she's twirling love around on her finger for a while, unsure of whether to fling it across the room or put it in her mouth — is even better.
