January 3rd marked the start of the nearly six-month-long process of Americans deciding—state-by-state—who they want on the presidential ballot in November. Here's a look at when the state primaries are being held, the results of those already held, and the tally of delegate votes for each party.

Democratic Primary by State
The Democratic primary elections determine the number of pledged votes each candidate will receive from a state's pledged votes as a proportion of the election results. A number superdelegate votes, unbound by the primary results, are also cast by Democratic leaders in a state. Some states have been penalized with a reduction in delegates because they advanced the date of their primaries without party authorization. Roll over a state for schedules and results.

Republican Primary by State
The Republican primary elections determine for some states the proportion of votes a candidate will receive of the state's pledged votes, while for other states determine the winner a state's total pledged votes. There are also unpledged state votes, unbound by primary results, cast by state leaders.
