More Questions with Chris Rock
Comedian and filmmaker Chris Rock photographed in New York City, February 27, 2007
The outspoken standup star takes a softer turn in his new movie, I Think I Love My Wife. But that doesn't mean he has mellowed. Chris Rock will now take your questions
Do you cheat on your wife? Liz
Nooooo! Next question.
Who are your favorite comics? What do you think about the next generation of comedians? Cherise O'Grady, Utica, NY
My favorite comics. I like a guy named Ron White right now. He is cracking me up. Cat Williams is making me laugh, um you know. My old favorites, guys like Steven Wright, Eddie Murphy I wish he would go on tour. Um. And the new guys are good. I've seen some decent guys I am getting a little old. There are a bunch of new guys that you know, Louis C.K. is pretty funny.
Do you agree that Steve Martin is the only standup comic to have made truly good films? Michael West, Copenhagen, Denmark
That's an odd question. I believe a lot of standup comedians are making truly great films. There's a lot of comedians along with Steve Martin who have made truly great films: Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey, to name a few, Woody Allen, Albert Brooks.
If you could convince someone to give one of your films a second chance or second look, which one would it be? Anonymous
I would say Pootie Tang.
If you are directing as you did and writing your own movie, do you not get a little bit more control? Anonymous
You definitely get more control, but you know... it's still.... You do get more control, but boy, if you want to get paid a decent wage you got to get a PG-13 rating, everybody is not made for PG-13.
Where do you see yourself in the future? As a comedian, actor, or filmmaker? Louis Oh, Sungnam, Korea
Hopefully breathing and, hopefully, you know, as a comedian. I am always going to be a comedian. The other things are fine, but my main thing is standup.
Your brief role in I'm Gonna Git You Sucka is one of the funniest in movie history. What was it like for you as a younger actor to work with some of great legends in this movie? Anonymous
Umm, I only had one scene in that movie.
What was the defining moment that you got interested in politics? Eric Cahan, New York, NY
Oh, I am so not into politics. Next question.
When you were in Africa and especially Kenya, what one thing did you learn? Anthony, Nairobi, Kenya
What one thing did I learn? You just learn that um the poorest people in America are lucky compared to the people in Africa and Kenya. A project in you know Chicago is a luxury apartment in Kenya. What do you do about it? You send money. You take pictures. You try to create some awareness you know that's about it. Maybe adopt some kids. I don't know.
By what measure will you know that racism is dead in America? Len Martinez, Crystal Lake, IL
By what measure will I know that racism is dead in America. I don't know. I'll probably be dead in four hundred years before racism is dead in America. I am not going to see that. Nostradamus hasn't even seen the end of racism.
