Yes, he's a horse. But don't hold that against him. When Silent Witness won the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint, in effect the world's turf sprint championship, he stretched his unbeaten streak to 13 races. If there's a faster thoroughbred on the planet, nobody has yet found him (or her). Though he was facing many of the world's best sprinters, Silent Witness saw off his rivals with astonishing—and contemptuous—ease. The hometown hero strolled to the front about halfway through the 1,000-m race, and cruised across the finish line with his ears pricked. No sweat, no contest. As a gelding, the barrel-chested five-year-old has no stud value, so he can focus on running—and earning more prize money. The equine superstar's next challenge is to match 1990s U.S. champion Cigar's 16 consecutive victories by taking Hong Kong's sprint triple crown. That will probably be a cakewalk. Further proof that we're witness to not just a horse, but a legend in the making.
