Getting There & Away
Macau's airport, opened in December 1995, is one of Asia's quietest. There are heaps of flights to Macau from Chinese cities, flights from Lisbon via Bangkok, helicopter flights (but no planes) from Hong Kong, and direct flights from Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.
Macau's land border with China, at the town of Gongbei in the Zhuhai Special Economic Zone, is open from 7 am to midnight every day. Buses run to Zhuhai, Guangzhou and Zhongshan. The most popular way to get to Macau, however, is on the boat from Hong Kong. It's a journey of one to two hours (depending on customs), and boats run around the clock. There is also a daily ferry between Macau and Shekou in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.
