Short Cuts
FARE DEAL: Singapore Airlines recently launched a "New Singapore Stopover" package to entice long-haul travelers to stay a bit, instead of merely passing through Changi Airport. The offer includes free admission to six of the island's most popular tourist attractions (including the night safari at the zoo, Sentosa and a riverboat tour); a pass for free access to SIA's Hop-on buses; and discounts on Hertz car rentals and Singapore Tourist Board tours. There are also coupons for savings on spas, shopping and dining, and participating hotels are charging only $30 a person for the first night's stay (based on twin share), which includes express check-in and extended check-out privileges. The deal runs through March 31, 2000. And, if you find yourself passing through on a long-haul SIA or SilkAir flight before March 31 of this year, you will still be eligible to book SIA's "Stopover Splendour" package, which charges only $1 for the first night and $30 a night thereafter for hotel accommodation (double occupancy), airport transfers and even a sidetrip to a Bintan holiday resort.
