Asia Buzz: It's A Bubble!
(I want in!)
By ADI IGNATIUS

Web posted at 11:30 a.m. Hong Kong time, 10:30 p.m. EDT

It's time for some clear analysis on the meltdown in technology stocks in the United States last week.

It's about time, frankly. Any bozo could have told you that tech shares were way, way overvalued.
(I missed the entire bull run.)

Why did everyone fall for the hype, that suddenly there was a New Economy with its own set of rules?
(The ENTIRE bull run. Was I sleep-walking?)

And the decline isn't finished. This is a classic bubble, and it hasn't burst yet.
(I'm getting in NOW.)

The price-earnings ratios are still stratospheric--for companies that have any earnings at all, that is.
(Who cares about price-earnings ratios? I want tech stocks!)

The emphasis now is on value: long-term, solid earnings.
(The emphasis is on buying low and selling high--preferably on the same day.)

The joke is on all my friends who quit their jobs to work for dotcoms.
(How come I never got an offer? I'm just as good as these idiots at getting rich quick.)

They're all so "hip" now, with their studied, casual-chic looks.
(I could grow a pony tail.)

And they blow half their salaries on designer coffee.
(Me? I'm a triple-shot, decaf, skinny grande with dust kind of guy.)

So let's toast the return to sanity in the markets.
(Let's sell everything we've got and buy Tom.com.)

Value, value, value.
(Flip, flip, flip.)

Personally I'm proud to be part of the Old Economy.
(Personally, I'm sick of being poor.)
