In this ever-busier world of ours, with information at our fingertips, in our eyeballs, whisking by our ear hairs--you're still reading this, right?--time is precious. That's why we at Asia Buzz Fast give you only the news you need, when you need it, as you like it.

Short. Fast. Brief. Concise. Succinct. Terse. Sharp. Skimpy. Without the repetition we get so sick of day after day after day after day. I'm Anthony Spaeth. And I'm typing as fast as I can.

The story behind today's news from the editors of Asiaweek

We start Asia Buzz Fast today on Wall Street, where tech stocks are tanking on the NASDAQ. Please note: your browser buttons have been frozen, so don't try checking your trading accounts. Rajiv Swami of Merrill Lynch joins us from New York. Rajiv, in past editions, you've told us "Convergence," "Content," and "Business Plan." What do you have for us today, quickly please?

SWAMI: I said liquidate all my accounts!

Rajiv seems to have gotten a crossed line, but we all get the meaning. We have an update now on the American presidential race from Portentous Voice in Washington. In the wake of the Republican convention in Philadelphia, Portentous, what can you tell us about the months ahead?

PORTENTOUS: It's still Gore vs. Bush, alas.

Portentous, what is the major issue in the race?

PORTENTOUS: Oh, come on.

Breaking news, folks. The Federal Air Safety Board has concluded that the Concorde is perfectly safe at speeds up to Mach .0004, which is the equivalent of 40 miles per hour. And when we say "the Concorde," we're not being generic. There's a single Concorde left in service, the one British Airways pilots have nicknamed "Fireball."

Now it's time for our "Let Your Voice Be Heard" segment. We have a recorded comment from a reader in Cyprus...Sorry. Let's cancel that. Way too complicated. But don't forget to call our "Let Your Voice Be Heard" toll-free number. Meanwhile, here's the weather from Trooly Vane. Trooly?

TROOLY: Rain, snow, sleet and hail.

Well said, Trooly.

TROOLY: But it's sunny in Cyprus.

Don't encourage them, please. Turning to our "Diplomatic Minute," we welcome the Special Enduring Conflict Ambassadors from India and Pakistan. Gentlemen, in a shocking episode last week, more than 90 people were killed in separatist attacks in Kashmir. The only thing we want to know: Will this human tragedy have any effect on the status of embattled Kashmir?

PAKISTAN AMBASSADOR: Not if I have anything to do with it.

INDIAN AMBASSADOR: Ditto.

I see our chat room is filling up with people discussing Kashmir. Let's take a quick look.

Freedom_47: No we're not ;-(

Territorial_Integrity_2000: Yes you are :-<

Freedom_47: No, we're NOT x!*

That's all the news and analysis you need from Asia Buzz Fast, the column that brings you your world--in your attention span. Your browser buttons are now unlocked. PS: You've lost a bundle.
