John Stanmeyer

John Stanmeyer has won numerous international awards for his photojournalistic work in Asia and around the world.

A contract photographer with TIME, Stanmeyer has been based in Asia since 1996 and covers the entire region. Prior to living in Asia, Stanmeyer was a staff photographer with the Tampa Tribune in the United States from 1989 to 1996. He has also been a fashion photographer in Milan, Italy.

Stanmeyer's work has received numerous international awards of excellence for photojourmalism, including prizes from the Society of Publishers Asia (SOPA), Photo District News (PDN) and the World Press Institute. He has been the recipient of the Picture of the Year award and the Robert Capa Gold Medal. His most recent awards include Best News Photography, first place from PDN and First Place Spot News from the World Press. He was also nominated twice for the Pulitzer Prize in 1993 and 1994 for his work on Sudan and Haiti respectively.

Born in Lake Forest, Illinois, USA, on March 22, 1964, Stanmeyer is a graduate of the Art Institute in Florida, USA.
