then opposition leader of Yugoslavia, as thousands of demonstrators stormed parliament, demanding the ouster of strongman Slobodan Milosevic after he tried to overturn Kostunica's victory in the presidential election. The people got their wish: Milosevic resigned and Kostunica was duly sworn in on Oct. 7.
