The girl in this image looks very prim and proper; her hairstyle, sweater, skirt, and shoes are reminiscent of the 1930s-1940s. On top of this nostalgic scene, however, lie cheap, modern elements. Wu is commenting on the artificiality and vulgarity of materialism in Taiwanese society that contrasts with his portrayal of the country's past.
