The festival is a riot of sights, color and movement. There is no shortage of religion in this dusty, chaotic ersatz city, and entertainment too. Troupes of actors perform popular songs and plays on the life of the gods; a saint, as people call him, lies on a bed of thorns; and religious orders announce their arrival with a procession of elephants, horses and camels draped in gorgeous fabric.
