Destruction and development in Indonesia have imperiled humankind's closest relatives, the orangutan

Beset by the conjoined dangers of poaching and deforestation, the Kailimantan orangutans have seen their numbers dwindle into the realm of endangered species. It's often forgotten, but orangutans have families, and when a parent dies or is killed, the offspring are orphaned. These are two of the luckier orphans, in that they have found a home at the Balikpapan Orangutan Survival Foundation, a facility in which they are nurtured and prepared for an eventual return to the wild.
