TRAVEL WATCH: JANUARY 17, 2000 VOL. 155 NO. 2
PHOTO.NET (www.photo.net/photo) Shoot smart: Phil Greenspun's website offers perhaps the best free advice on photography available on the Net. Want to take better travel pictures? Visit his site for tips on everything from choosing a camera and film to composing an interesting shot. Greenspun delivers volumes of useful information in an amusing way. And check out his travel writing, which is often more about him than the places he visits. Despite, or perhaps because of, his cynical narcissism, he's an amusing companion. FREIGHTER WORLD CRUISES (www.freighterworld.com) Anchors away: Have you ever wanted to take a slow boat from China? This site details the delights of experiencing a cruise on a freighter. Sound bizarre? Imagine a cruise ship with no crowds, no formalities and no cruise director. Passengers can hop on (or off)a freighter at pretty much any point they want. The site offers a booking service and a list of itineraries for freighters that accept passengers. Cruising costs on average $100 a day.
