foodfest
For
Singaporeans, to eat is to live, and to be in Singapore in April is to
eat and live well. The 7th Annual Singapore Food Festival is under way,
with excellent noshing available across the city-state. All this month
you can do your part by gorging on a variety of delicious meals--and,
to go a step further, learning to create a few yourself. If you're keen
on the Nonya cuisine of Singapore, sign up for the Peranakan Culinary
Workshop run by master Chef Jolly Wee. Sessions run throughout the month
at $35 a class, including dinner. Contact the Chili Padi Nonya Family
Restaurant at (65) 275-1002 to reserve your spot. If you would prefer
to eat with the beasts, try the zoo, where you can do lunch with the lions--from
behind the safety of plexiglass. For details, go to www.singaporefoodfestival.com.sg.
Shanghai direct
United Airlines has launched a non-stop service connecting Shanghai to
San Francisco five times a week. United will also be starting a Beijing-San
Francisco flight on June 9.
