JUNE 12, 2000 VOL. 156 NO. 23 Detour
eoul's
newest hotspot, the bouddha Bar, doesn't offer a religious experience,
but it certainly has its share of converts. Located at Chongdam-dong,
a trendy strip in the fancy Kangnam district that attracts gourmets and
other elegant Seoulites, Bouddha Bar offers a fair approximation of an
18th-century Parisian café. It's divided into two rooms, Wee on the main
floor, which serves French cuisine, and Arrende in the basement, where
you can get simple Chinese fare. Wee's walls are decorated with faux neo-classical
frescoes looking convincingly aged, while the downstairs room is illuminated
by the warm glow of its cleverly lit pillars. (Tel:822-542-2222.) ASIANOW Travel Home Quick Scroll: More stories from TIME Travel Watch
