Upcoming

Should you find yourself wandering around Singapore this fall complaining that there's nothing to do, you're not looking hard enough. During the Lantern Festival in the Chinese Garden you can see traditional lanterns from China's Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces in all their illuminated glory. Members of the Dong minority from Guizhou province will perform traditional song and dance during the festival, which lasts from Aug. 31 to Sept. 13.

That event is just part of For Art's Sake, a three-month celebration of culture that kicks off Sept. 1, featuring painting, sculpture, theatre and other activities scattered around the city. Singapore's Hindu community will mark Deepavali with a festival of lights celebrating victory over darkness. Serangoon Road in Little India is ablaze from Oct. 7 until Nov. 2. In addition, Singapore's second annual 42 Theatre Festival runs for 42 days from Nov. 1 to Dec. 10 and puts the spotlight on the city's drama scene. For more events, log onto www.travel.com.sg.
