TRAVEL WATCH: OCTOBER 11, 1999 VOL. 154 NO. 14
Films projected on the side of city hall; video screens mounted in tuk-tuks. Is the city a setting for art, or is it the art itself? After stops in Vienna, New York and London, the acclaimed Cities on the Move exhibition shifts from tame Western galleries to the chaotic streets of Bangkok. The curators have overcome the City of Angels' lack of art museums by using other venues to stage the multimedia exhibit. The shows explore modernization and globalization as reflected by Asia's cities through the work of mainly Asian artists, architects and urban planners. It runs from Oct. 9 to 30.
