1992 Gore-Quayle-Stockdale

The scene of Al Gore's last big disappointment didn't have much effect on the race, but it was fun to watch, thanks to the presence of Ross Perot's running mate, retired Adm. James Stockdale. From his opener — "Who am I? Why am I here?" — to "You know, I'm out of ammunition on this" and "You know, I didn't have my hearing aid turned up. Tell me again," Stockdale immediately morphed into a "Saturday Night Live" skit. Quayle made Gore look bad by going after Clinton and keeping him off-message — and with the "page 304" gambit, from Gore's book "Earth in the Balance." Gore would go on to find his fangs against Ross Perot on CNN; Quayle and Bush lost the election. Stockdale was never heard from again.
