From Print to Film. Identify a scene in the movie that you would have done differently had you been the director. Compare it to the corresponding scene in the book, and explain how you would have interpreted the text visually. Communicate what you would have wanted the scene to look like by writing a script or storyboard for the scene. Include director notes, staging, etc. You can look at sample scripts at:

2. Notes from Tolkien. The following is an excerpt from a note written by Tolkien to Milton Waldman. (You can find this, in addition to many other letters,at http://www.americanidea.org/handouts/06240106.htm.)

"Myth and fairy-story must, as all art, reflect and contain in solution elements of moral and religious truth (or error), but not explicit, not in the known form of the primary 'real' world."

What moral and religious truths (or errors) does Tolkien reflect and contain in The Fellowship of the Ring? How does he communicate these tenets? Does he convey them explicitly or implicitly?
