Biography

Mitch Frank joined TIME's Nation section as a reporter in 1999, just in time to cover the most contentious election in a century. He traveled with then-Governor Bush for two weeks, covered the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia and took a post-election trip with the new President on Bush's first trip back to Florida. Frank spent most of the election reporting on campaign issues and how the candidates where faring in individual states.

Post-election he's still covering politics, traveling to Ohio to see how term limits have changed state legislatures and keeping an eye on the Bush administration. On Sept. 11, 2001, Frank was reporting three blocks away from the World Trade Center when it collapsed.

Frank came to TIME in 1997. Previously he worked as a reporter for Entertainment Weekly, covering Hollywood. (Same as Washington, better actors.)

He's been a guest on CNN, Fox News and the Today Show.

Born in New York City, but raised in Miami, Florida, Frank graduated from the University of Virginia and now lives with his wife, Catherine, in Brooklyn.

His weekly column, appearing each Wednesday on TIME.com, focuses on politics at the state level, where most new ideas in government first surface.
