Operation Anaconda is designed to squeeze the life out of a Taliban and al-Qaeda stronghold dug deep into the Shah-i-Kot mountains of eastern
Afghanistan. The operation has seen the heaviest and bloodiest fighting
yet in the Afghan campaign; after the first week of battle, eight U.S. and
three allied soldiers are dead, and an estimated 450 enemy personnel have
been killed.
