U.S. aircraft drop 270 bombs on the Taliban and al-Qaeda hideouts. The battle now involves more than 1,500 soldiers, including special forces from Australia, Canada, Germany, Denmark, France and Norway, as well as the U.S. and Afghanistan. Firefights erupt as the allied troops push towards the mountains, and rough terrain slows their progress.

U.S. FORCES: Special Ops, 101st Airborne, 10th Mountain Division
KEY WEAPONS: B-1 and B-2 bombers, F-15 fighters, AC-130 gunships and Apache helicopters
