The resistance of the Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters and the decision by the U.S. to expand its own force levels at Shah-i-Kot leads the Afghan government responds to send 1,000 more troops to join the allied effort. Heavy bombing continues, with nearly 200 bombs dropped on the cave complex in 24 hours. Reports from the front lines indicate the allied ground troops are exhausted but determined. "I assure you, the enemy is surrounded," one Afghan commander told reporters.
