Delia Everett, an executive assistant at Source Interlink, a magazine distributor in New York City, got lucky. Her company relocated to Florida—and offered jobs to both her and her spouse. One visit was all it took to persuade the couple and their two children James, 16, and Samantha, 11, to say goodbye to their apartment in Mahwah, N.J. With lower housing costs in their new hometown of Naples, Fla., the family could afford to buy a house with a swimming pool and a hot tub overlooking a lake.
