In the process, her spleen ruptured, an artery severed in her left left leg, her jaw broke in six places, and she lost her six front teeth. She doesn't remember any of it. A metal contraption, weighing about 13 lbs holds the bones together in her left leg and she spends most of her days confined to a wheel chair. Since she can't chew solid foods because of the damage to her jaw, she has lost 40 lbs. But she is slowly making progress. Using a walker, she says, she can walk about 75 feet.
