Bob Barr

Bubba, Bubba, Toil and Trouble

A U.S. attorney during the Reagan administration, the rough-hewn Bob Barr (R-Ga.) is a libertarian-leaning conservative with a reputation for speaking his mind. He opposed Hyde over an initiative to broaden wiretapping, but although he may take a dim view of Linda Tripp's handiwork, don't expect him to cut Bill any slack over it. In fact, he was the chief sponsor of a resolution to impeach the President back in November of 1997 -- before the Lewinsky story broke -- and managed to attract 17 cosponsors. Twice divorced, Barr nonetheless plays the fervent moralist, and fought hard to ban federal recognition of same-sex marriages.
