Scandal

Three intertwined scandals have plagued Bill Clinton's presidency, leading ultimately to the impeachment trial: The Whitewater land deal, made before the Clintons went to Washington, led to the appointment of a special prosecutor during his first term. Paula Jones ignited a furor when she charged the President with sexual harassment in 1994 for allegedly propositioning her while he was governor of Arkansas. And Linda Tripp's tapes of her conversations with alleged Clinton paramour Monica Lewinsky added fuel to the fire when they became public.
