SEPTEMBER 17, 1997 SPECIAL REPORT: PRINCESS DIANA, 1961-1997 REES-JONES ON THE MEND Bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones -- the sole survivor of the Aug. 31 car crash that killed Princess Diana, Dodi Al Fayed and driver Henri Paul -- "is perfectly conscious and can communicate well, though he tires quickly," Pierre Coriat, chief of anesthesiology at the Pitie-Salpetriere hospital, said in a statement Tuesday. "In the course of the coming days, he should become self-sufficient." The news raises hopes that investigators could soon question the former paratrooper, reports the Associated Press. On Tuesday, however, ABC News quoted a hospital source as saying that Rees-Jones, 29, remembers nothing of the events after leaving the Ritz Hotel that fateful night, and NBC News reports that Rees-Jones is not aware that Diana and the others are dead. |
