| December 13, 1999 Elian is taken to Disney World, while Immigration and Naturalization Service representatives hold a second meeting with Juan Miguel Gonzales in Cardenas, Cuba. While the Miami family are seeking political asylum for Elian on the grounds that he faces political persecution in Cuba, Washington has indicated that it is prepared, in principle, to send the boy home once it has established the substance of the father's claim.
