| January 10, 2000 Florida Family Court judge Rosa Rodriguez issues an order granting temporary custody to Lazaro Gonzalez, and orders that Elian not be removed from the U.S. before her court can hold a hearing. The following day it emerges that the judge is under investigation for possible misuse of campaign finances, and that the Miami family's spokesman, Armando Gutierrez, had served as a consultant in her election campaign.
