The Kings of Rock Run-DMC were hip-hop's first supergroup, and their radio hits easily fill a double album. Together with their labelmate LL Cool J — easily the most consistent star in the hip-hop constellation — they forced the music industry to treat hip-hop with respect. Their collaboration with Aerosmith on "Walk This Way" and use of rock guitar samples presaged today's crop of rock-rap crossover acts. Under the wily guidance of Def Jam mogul Russell Simmons, they also pioneered hip-hop's lucrative relationship with the sportswear industry.
