Killed for Her Car Keys: Brandy Smith, 18, was walking to her car with two friends outside a shopping mall in Houston last May when they were approached by a 21-year-old man who demanded her keys. When the young women saw that the man had a gun, they ran. Brandy was shot in the head and died. Her killer was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Her mother, Colleen, an employee at an oil and gas company, says she thinks often of the killer's mother, whom she has met: "His mother and I have both lost so much."
